The Atlanta Hawks pulled off a Game 1 win on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals opener. Trae Young had a fantastic night on the way to setting playoff career high as the Hawks top the Bucks 116-113.
Young and the Hawks have silenced the non-believers this entire postseason and tonight they made their most convincing case as contenders with narrow victory over the home side.
Young made up a off night in Game 7
It was clear to see from the start Young was looking to make amends after a poor shooting display in Game 7 against the Sixers. The former Oklahoma Sooner got off to a hot start and never cooled down.
Bucks led for most of the first three quarters
The Bucks led going into the halftime break, but Milwaukee was never able to stretch out to a considerable lead. The largest lead all game was a brief nine point advantage for the home side in the second quarter.
Atlanta spent most of the first three quarters trailing, but Young and John Collins lifted the Hawks to as much as an eight point lead right before the fourth quarter.
A 13-2 Milwaukee run in the fourth quarter put Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks up seven with under four minutes to go after a Holiday three off of an offensive rebound.
The Hawks battled back as they have done all postseason, finishing the fourth quarter on an 18-8 run led by Trae Young and Clint Capela.
Young with a career playoff high 48 points
Capela dominated on the interior with 19 rebounds, to go along with his 12 points, but Trae Young will be stealing all the headlines in tomorrows papers. Young exploded for a playoff high 48 points, seven rebounds and eleven assists. Young had 20 of Atlanta’s first 42 points in the first half. It was clear from the start he wanted to have an impact on this game after struggling against Philly in Game 7.
Giannis posted 34 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists while Jrue Holiday had 33, but it wasn’t enough to topple the Hawks in the opener.
The Bucks had a chance to tie the game on the last possession of the game, but Khris Middleton’s three point effort fell short to give the Hawks their sixth road win of the playoffs.

The Game 1 win marks the third time the Hawks have opened up a series in this postseason with a win away from home. They did it against the Knicks in the first round and did it against the Sixers in the Conference Semifinals.
For the first time since 1969 the Hawks franchise has won a Conference Final game, they had gone 10 straight games without a win. With the opening win they have stripped Milwaukee of their home court advantage and will have a chance to go back to Atlanta with a 2-0 lead.
