México vs Trinidad and Tobago live

Mexico will begin the defence of their Gold Cup title against Trinidad and Tobago at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Gerardo Martino’s men, favorites to lift the trophy again, go into the match after comfortably beating Panama (3-0) and Nigeria last weekend (4-0), while Trinidad and Tobago qualified for the tournament after an 8-7 win on penalties in a play-off with French Guiana.

Mexico lost the CONCACAF Nations League final to the United States last month, so El Tri will be motivated to win the international competition again, with some of the players that featured in the 2019 edition and some new faces.

Mexico heavy favorites against Trinidad and Tobago

Mexico, who have never failed to make it out of the group stage and who will play against three teams that they have not lost to in more than a decade, have only lost twice in their eight games in 2021 and have not conceded a goal since their loss to the USMNT.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago, who failed to advance to the second round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, take part in the Gold Cup tournament for their second consecutive time.

In 2019 they lost their opening match to Panama 2-0 before a humiliating 6-0 loss to the United States. They closed their presence in the competition with a 1-1 draw against Guyana.

Dennis Lawrence’s men - some currently without a club - won’t have an easy time against Mexico and the other contenders, as they haven’t won a group stage match since 2015.
