Olympic Games 2020 start Friday in Tokyo

The long-awaited Summer Olympics 2020 will begin Friday in Tokyo after a year-long wait due to Covid-19, and with its share of scandals and drama.

Update:
Olympic Games 2020 start Friday in Tokyo

On Friday, the Olympic Games will begin with the opening ceremony, a chance for Japan to show off its culture, introduce the games, and get people excited for the big event which the whole world is watching.

Olympic Games go on despite the odds

The 2020 games were postponed last year due to the covid-19 pandemic, which cost about $3.5 billion. This year, despite some setbacks and scandals (athletes dropping out due to covid, the opening ceremony director being fired just one day before the opening ceremony), the show must go on.

The Summer Games this year will see a return of baseball and softball for the first time in 13 years, as well as four new sports added to the games: surfing, skateboarding, karate, and sport climbing.

How and when to watch the Tokyo Olympics 2020

The opening ceremony will be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 6:55 a.m. Eastern. Later, NBC will broadcast a recorded version in the evening, at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.
