Tokyo Olympics 2021 cycling schedule: dates and times for road race, track, mountain and BMX
From the roads to the mountains to the track, and let’s not forget the BMX stars, the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo have a feast of cycling in store for us.
The 2020 Olympic Games - delayed due to a global pandemic - are now with us. The opening ceremony, although restricted, gave an exuberant show of Japanese culture with a respectful nod to those who have perished due to covid-19, and introduced us to some of the sports men and women that will be competing for medals, records and personal pride over the coming days.
Within the thousands of athletes are a large group who chose to train tirelessly on two wheels, self-driven to reach the top of their own mountain, staying on track for as long as the road lasts. OK, ‘enough of the forced wordplay’, I hear you demand, ‘we want to know when the events are’. Fine, let’s move through the gears and find out when the various competitions begin rolling, with the first action late on Friday 23 July based on US Eastern Time.

Olympic Games: Road Races (all times ET)
The 2020 Games brings us two individual road races - the Men’s event and the Women’s event, involving riders from 57 different nations and these will result in the awarding of some of the earliest medals. There will also be a time-trial race.
Both are one-day events with the same starting point and finishing line for both the Men’s and Women’s races although the routes will be slightly different and shorter in the case of the women. Both races will feature stunning scenery including a backdrop of Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji which hopefully, should be fully visible at this time of year, weather permitting.
