Events

The events taking place at the Tokyo Olympic 2021 triathlon race are three: women’s Olympic- distance race, men’s Olympic- distance race and a mixed relay with male and female competing together.

Individual races consist of swimming, with two laps around the bay (1,500 m), bike(40 km) and run (10km).

On the other hand, mixed races’ distances are a bit different. Each team is conformed by two men and two women, who will each do 300 m swim, 8 km bike and a 2 km run before the next teammate starts.

U.S. Participants

The team to defend USA is comprised of five athletes- two males and three females.

In the men’s field, American Kevin McDowell and Morgan Pearson will be representing US for this Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Conversely, the women who qualified for this year’s Olympics are Olympian veteran Katie Zaferes, Summer Rappaport and World Triathlon Champion Taylor Knibb. All of them newcomers except Zaferes who finished 18th in Rio’s Olympics.

I believe we are going to witness the most unique and inspiring Games in history, and we encourage the entire multisport community to get behind our athletes and support Team USA before, during and after the Games.”

Rocky Harris, USA Triathlon CEO.
