The first clear chance for Honduras comes in before the break! Mexico lost the ball near their box and Rodríguez shot was blocked by the goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera.

GOL! GOAL! GOLAZO! Mexico is doing their work and make it 3-0! Jesús Corona makes a perfect cross from the right flank and Orbelín Pineda headers the ball inside the box to find the back of the net.


Honduras seems lost and so far they have no shots on target. There is only one team on the field so far.

Alex Lopez seems to be find and he re-enters the game between Honduras and Mexico.

Good news for Honduras! It seems that the defender Kevin Álvarez is going to be able to continue as he re-enters the game.


Bad news for the Honduras national team. Kevin Álvarez has gone down and the medical staff is taking care of him in what it looks like an apparent head injury.


BACK-TO-BACK OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEXICO! Orbelín Pineda received a ball from the edge of the box and his shot barely went wide. 


ONE MORE TIME! Jonathan dos Santos received a through ball and the goalkeeper from Honduras was able to intercept it to keep the clean sheet.

WHAT A SAVE! WOW! 'Buba' Lopez makes an outstanding save after header inside the box from Hector Herrera. It was a clear chance on goal, but the goalkeeper from Honduras was able to keep the clean sheet.

AND AWAY WE GO! The quarter-final game between Mexico and Honduras has started at the University of Phoenix Stadium for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign.

Hector Moreno will captain the Mexico national team tonight against Honduras and he urges the fans at the stadium not to chant homophobic slurs during the quarter-final game.

The Mexico national team has arrived to the University of Phoenix stadium ahead of their clash against Honduras for the quarter-final of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign.

Mexico will face a battered Honduras in the Quarterfinals of the 2021 Gold Cup. Mexico will need to bounce back after a performance against El Salvador that left many of the fans worried. They will face a team who also needs to bounce back from a similar situation, but will need to do so with a lot of absences. A loss will end the tournament for both sides, and they will have the added pressure of a sold out crowd who we still don’t know who they will be rooting for.

With the groups wrapped up, the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2021 has reached the knock-out stages with eight countries vying for a place in the final.

There were no surprises with the top four teams, with Mexico, USA, Costa Rica and CONCACAF guests Qatar going through as leaders of their respective groups, while El Salvador, Canada, Jamaica and Honduras took the final four spots as second-placed finishers.

Rodolfo Pizarro to join Mexico in the Gold Cup quarter finals

The Inter Miami midfielder was left out of the final 22-player roster because he was recovering from a groin injury. So the coach of the Mexico national team, Gerardo Martino, decided to call Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, Efraín Álvarez instead.

Everything is set for the game today between Mexico and Honduras. El Tri will be wearing their alternative kit for the quarter-final game in Glendale, Arizona.
