Evan Mobley: “I have my own tendencies which make me unique”
Evan Mobley was the third overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft on Thursday, and he says he is a unique player even if he has some similarities to the greats.
20-year old Evan Mobley played Forward for the USC Trojans basketball team in college before being drafted as the third overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft.
Mobley averaged 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and 2.4 assists per game as a freshman. He was named Pac-12 Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year 2020-2021.
Why he's great like the stars but uniquely talented
He has been compared to Chris Bosh and Anthony Davis for his size and playing style. He’s seven feet tall and has a 7’4” wingspan. But he’s definitely right in saying he’s unique. He is an impressive shot-blocker and can move the ball while easily reading other plays, and he’s an offensive threat when it comes to the lob/roll. But his most impressive abilities are on defense. He’s able to defend the pick-and-roll instinctively and that’s what ultimately sets him apart from the rest.
