Nadal took some time off after a loss to Djokovic in the French Open and now Washington D.C. welcomes him to play again in the U.S. at the Citi Open
Rafael Nadal will be the biggest star playing at the Citi Open this year. Washington D.C. is a place the tennis player had never been before, and there was great determination to get him to play at the tournament this year.
With Nadal’s appearance at the Citi Open, the tournament will see its first member of the “Big Three” (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic) to attend since Federer’s first year in 1999.
Nadal looks to win another title after his loss to Djokovic in the French. Open
Nadal played in the French Open in June and lost to Novak Djokovic. Had he won, he would have surpassed Federer in the Grand Slam count if he’d won a 14th Roland Garros title. Nadal chose not to play in Wimbledon or the Tokyo Olympics to rest and heal both physically and mentally. At the Citi Open, he will be seeking his 89th singles title.
Nadal is the favorite to win in the 2021 Washington Open.
