2021 Olympics: what is Alex Morgan's net worth?

USWNT striker Alex Morgan is one of the most marketable athletes in the world and has long been an advocate of equal pay for female athletes in football.

USWNT star Alex Morgan has made 185 appearances for the national team since her debut in 2010, bagging 111 goals at international level to make her the fifth-highest scorer in US history behind Carli Lloyd, Kristine Lilly, Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach. The 32-year-old Californian has played for Western New York Flash, Seattle Sounders, Portland Thorns, Orlando Pride, Lyon and Tottenham during her senior club career after representing the California Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley.

Now back at Orlando Pride, Morgan earns a reported salary of $450,000 a year and in 2015 she was ranked by Time as the highest-paid US women’s soccer player. However, Lloyd currently earns more than her USWNT teammate at club level with a reported annual salary of $518,000 at NWSL side NJ/NY Gotham. Chelsea’s Sam Kerr is second on the list between Lloyd and Morgan with a reported wage of $500,000 a year at Chelsea.

Much of Morgan’s earnings have come from endorsements and sponsorship. The double World Cup-winner has made cameos in various television shows and featured in Maroon 5’s 2018 music video for the single Girls Like You. She was the featured played on the US version of video game FIFA 16 alongside Leo Messi and has been a regular in magazines including Sports Illustrated and ESPN Magazine. Morgan has also produced a series of books for schools, The Kicks, and has served as a UNICEF children’s ambassador and an envoy with the US State Department’s Sports Diplomacy office in Tanzania. She and USWNT teammate Megan Rapinoe were also the first two female players to sign up to Juan Mata’s Common Goal initiative, which asks players to donate 1% of their salary to charity.

Among the companies to have signed deals with Morgan throughout her career are Nike, McDonald’s, Panasonic, Coca-Cola, AT%T, Chobani and Mondelez International.

Morgan also recently founded a media company for female athletes, akin to LeBron James’ Uninterrupted, with WNBA star Sue Bird and Olympic gold medallists Simone Manuel and Chloe Kim. Called TOGETHXR, Morgan told the New York Times it will break barriers and “create a platform for female athletes for female athletes.”

Morgan has been a vocal advocate of the drive for equal pay in football alongside teammate Rapinoe and has an estimated net worth of $3m according to celebritynetworth.com.

Morgan makes Forbes top 10 in 2020

According to Forbes, Morgan ranked 10th among the world’s highest-paid female athletes in 2020 and was the highest-earning non-tennis player on the list with endorsements and salary totaling $4.6 million.
