Pique recalls his first encounter with Ronald Koeman, 30 years ago

Gerard Pique, FC Barcelona’s current captain, shared a video on social media from when he was just five years old, meeting then Barca player Ronald Koeman.

30 years ago, Gerard Pique was five years old, and a big fan of then Barcelona player Ronald Koeman’s. Today, Pique has become one of the best defenders of his generation of soccer, playing for none other than Barcelona, coached by none other than Ronald Koeman.

In the viral video which Pique shared on social media, you can see young Pique with his parents. He is holding a newspaper, which Koeman signs before taking a photograph together with them. A smiling young Pique walks away proud with his autograph.

Pique's pay cut a testament to his dedication to the team

Impressive both on and off the field. Pique recently took a pay cut in order to help the club. They were able to register three players, Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj before the LaLiga season opener on Sunday. Barcelona went on to win against Real Sociedad and Pique was the first to score.

He has said of the pay cut, “The rest of the captains are also completely willing to adjust their salaries. I was just the first because of a time crunch, but the club has asked them to make an effort, and they are going to do it.”
