Mbappé is the 'future' of football - Víctor Sánchez

Sánchez thinks the Frenchman is the 'definition of where football is going', because of his electric pace.

Former Barcelona player Víctor Sánchez has compared Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, describing the latter as the future of football.

Messi and Mbappé are now team mates following the Barcelona captain's arrival at PSG after his shock Camp Nou exit, with the pair set to play together for the first time in PSG's game against Brest on Friday. The superstar quality of both players is undeniable, however Sánchez says Messi and Mbappé "are different" players.

"They are different. It's true football is changing towards a more physical concept, not so much about quality," he said.

"I believe that Mess, Maradonna and Ronaldinho were quality players in terms of having the ball. And Mbappé is the definition of where football is going to. The new direction of football.

"A much more electric player, so fast. So similar to what type of player is emerging - Ansu Fati, for instance. Players with speed like [Erling] Haaland, who is a good player but not as good as Messi technically."
