Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao returns to the ring on Saturday to fight for a welterweight title, facing a last-minute replacement as his opponent.
The Filipino senator was slated to battle Errol Spence Jr. after a two-year hiatus, gunning for the latter’s WBC and IBF welterweight titles. The undefeated champion was forced to back out of the match after suffering a torn retina in his left eye in training camp.
WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugás will take the Texan’s place. Cuba’s Ugás was elevated to “super champion”, taking the title from Pacquiao, who was declared “champion in recess” due to inactivity. Pacquiao’s last fight was against Keith Thurman in July 2019.

The eight-division champion’s petition to be reinstated was rejected by the WBA. Pacquiao has said the proper and only way to win a world title is inside the ring.
Ugás relishes the chance to have a showdown against the legendary boxer. He said it’s an honor to fight Pacquiao, but he is also coming to win the fight.
Action-packed fight card
The evening will be full of action, with unbeaten contender Mark Magsayo going head-to-head with former world champion Julio Ceja, in a WBC featherweight title eliminator match.
Former world champions Robert Guerrero and Víctor Ortiz will be facing each other in a welterweight collision. Guerrero is a three-time world champion. Ortiz is returning to the ring for the first time since February 2018.
Meanwhile, undefeated Carlos Castro will exchange blows with former world title challenger Óscar Escandón in a featherweight bout.
