Simone Biles tops SportsPro 2021 most marketable athletes list
The US gymnast topped a female heavy listing that features tennis star Naoimi Osaka along with USWNT player Ashlyn Harris in the top 3.
The annual list of the Top 50 most marketable athletes by London based media company SportsPro threw up a few surprises as female stars start to make serious in-roads on a traditionally male dominated listing.
US gymnast Simone Biles topped the list and the 24-year-old shared the podium with tennis star Naomi Osaka and US soccer star Ashyln Harris who plays with WSL side Orlando Pride and the USWNT.
Juventus players Paolo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo feature at fifth and sixth position respectably with Lionel Messi in twelfth place in the ranking. Despite creating daily headlines in both French and Spanish currently, PSG striker Kylian Mbappé ranks at 23 in the listing.

Five metrics used by digital media specialists Greenfly were employed in compiling the list: frequency, reach, engagement, and fan demographic and attractiveness. The initial takeaway from the overall listing is that female stars compose more than 40% of the overall Top 50 with those stars who focus on matters over and above their own sports featuring highly on the listing.
