US completes Afghanistan withdrawal as last plane leaves Kabul

The US departure before the August 31 deadline marks the end of America's "forever war," with the conflict lasting for twenty years.

Planes are seen on the tarmac at the airport in Kabul late on August 30, 2021, hours ahead of a US deadline to complete its frenzied withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Update:

Last night the last US plane left Kabul airport, drawing an end to the twenty year NATO mission in Afghanistan.

The engagement has not been without its problems, the latest of which saw the US kill ten members of the same family in an airstrike on a would-be suicide bomber.
