Honduras vs USA: match report; as it happened

And that's the end of it! The USMNT winning 4-1 over Honduras as they march on in CONCACAF qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Americans will fancy their chances of qualification going forward after a disciplined performance on foreign soil tonight.

And that makes it 4-1 as Andy Najar gets on the scoresheet after yet again needless dispossession.

There will be 4 minutes of stoppage time.

The Honduran fans must also be credited as they have been vocal throughout.

The Americans will have to feel proud of their performance tonight as they weathered the storm and then beat it back.

We stand at 3-1 to the United States as they pass around the field to the sound of "Ole."

An irresponsible giveaway by the Honduran defense and the USMNT marches to goal. Aaronson with a tidy finish after good wing play and cross.

As time ticks away the Hondurans will have to feel hard done as they have pressured and fought through out.

And we have a Honduran corner kick.

We are now in the 82 minute of the CONCACAF World Cup 2022 qualifier with the United States leading 2-1 over Honduras.

Another injury this time to Tyler Adams of the USMNT who unfortunately will have to be replaced.

The vuvuzelas are back and we are in the 78th minute.

The Americans have now changed gears and are showing their pedigree.  Though not their best performance, they will take confidence in the fact that they have held fast in a hostile environment.

There is a silence in the stadium as Honduras team seems shell shocked for the moment.

The USMNT has scored after a tidy cross and headed finish by the young starlet Pepi.

Honduras prepares to make a change. Acosta will enter for Flores who has put in a good shift tonight.

A good effort from Tyler Adams, forcing a save out of the Honduran keeper!

Now in the 70th minute and Honduras seems to be preparing for a final assault.

For the moment we stand at 1-1 here in the 2022 World Cup qualifier between CONCACAF's United States and Honduras.

American goal keeper Matt Turner will have to feel aggrieved considering the ease with which his defense is bending under pressure tonight.

After a drop ball we are once again underway.

Another heavy challenge in midfield only this time its Deybi Flores of Honduras who is taken to the sideline.

A clutch save by the American keeper as a Honduran header almost finds the far post after a corner.

And still the vuvuzelas!

Pulisic has been withdrawn as it seems he was unable to recover from the earlier challenge. This is without a doubt a big loss for the US as Pulisic has been the architect of their attacking play.

Honduras continues to win the 50/50 balls which could prove deadly if the Americans are not more careful in possession.

Quioto's effort goes wide.

A foul on Arriaga sets up a Honduran free kick in a dangerous position about 10 yards from the area.

Christian Pulisic is on his feet after a heavy challenge and approaching the sideline.

For the moment Honduras stands firm.

Pulisic is begnning to pull the strings in midfield after some neat touches.

The vuvuzelas are immense as the crowd wills Honduras forward.

Easily taken by the keeper.

A good save from the Honduran keeper as Pulisic gets his first look at goal. A corner to follow.

The match is now coming into its own as the Americans have clearly grown in confidence after their equalizer.

One has to question the quality of the surface as passes AND shots have been 'wobbly' at times.

The Hondurans have seemingly taken that as a call to action . A close chance there after some good build up play by Jose Garcia

Almost out of nothing the Americans have equalized after some suspect defending by the Hondurans and a rebound shot by Antonee Robinson.

The Americans allowed themselves a team huddle before the start of the second half. It's clear the importance of this match to them. Now they only have 45 minutes to show just that.

And away we go

The Americans have made 1 as well with Brendan Aaronson in

The Hondurans have made 1 change with Quioto in for Lozano.

And we're back. The referees are heading out onto the field for the second half with the players in tow.

As the teams strategize we are being treated to the festivities being enjoyed by what is nearly a capacity crowd in the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano. Of course that's not withstanding the stadium announcer's 'Social Distancing' warning.

If the Americans are to overcome the challenge in front of them they will need the likes of Christian Pulisic to show why he's a UEFA Champions League winner.

USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter will want to calm his charges during the break. The Americans possess more than enough talent and experience amongst their ranks, but for the moment they seem to be overwhelmed by the atmosphere of the stadium and the hunger of the home team.

They know what time it is!

A deep throw by the American goal keeper sent Pulisic on his way, unfortunately he was met by a wall of a defender as the half comes to an end.

The Americans are closing out the half in possession but with nothing to show for it, as a faint call for a penalty is denied after a deep cross into the Honduran area.

There will be 3 minutes of stoppage time.

As we approach halftime it's clear that the US is in need of a regrouping. Honduras has come to play.

Pepi with a cynical foul having been unceremoniously dispossessed.

We are now 5 minutes from the half and still the US failed to threatened.

Off we go again.

It seems Arriaga is going to require attention. Medics are now on the field and he is in fact being stretchered off the field.

A heavy challenge on Arriaga in midfield and he is still down.

Moya again testing the American goal only this time with less success. The diminutive forward is proving to be quite the threat with one goal already to his name.

Pulisic easily dispossessed and with that the Hondurans mount a counter attack. There is a bit of tiki taka to them at the moment.

Rodriguez continues to be more than a handful for the American defense. They will want to have a word about that.

The Americans have yet to threaten the Honduran area in any meaningful way.

An effort goes just wide of the American goal as Lozano tries his luck

Though the atmosphere is intense and the play frenetic, the game has so far been a respectful one between the sides.

Honduras continues to be bold in their gusty approach as they employ route 1 football.

For the moment the USMNT seems to be overawed by the occasion as what seems to be a capacity crowd - with vuvuzelas - is in full party mode.

And another corner.

The Americans most definitely have to focus now as they have a corner to be taken by Christian Pulisic.

A diving header by Honduran forward Moya to the far post after some tidy build up play. Now we have a match on our hands!

The crowd erupts as Honduras goes 1-0 up on the USMNT in the 27th minute!

A foul on Pulisic who continues to be shown no love by the Honduran defense.

The young starlet Pepi with a half chance from close range for the Americans. Perhaps he should should have done better as the ball was headed back across goal to him.

The crowd in the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano is definitely up for this one and they are letting the referee know it.

For the moment what the Hondurans have in fight they are lacking in end product. One has to feel that should they get it together, the Americans could find themselves in real trouble.

The Americans are being forced into a more conservative approach to the match as Honduras continues to show they mean business.

The Honduran offside trap appears to be holding for the moment.

Pulisic continues to cast a frustrated figure as his midfield is yet to command the center of the pitch.

Honduras definitely in the ascendance now as they pile on the pressure.

A close effort from the #13 Moya

American talisman, Christian Pulisic has yet to put his mark on the game as we arrive at the 15th minute.

Pereira is on his feet and seems to be ready once again for action.

A horrific collision between a Honduran defender and his goalkeeper as both went in for the ball.

The USMNT has yet to find their footing in the match so far in a match that has been as much about the atmosphere as the play.

Honduras is enjoying the better play at the moment as they are clearly enjoying the home advantage. Some neat build up play only stopped by desperate American defending!

Arriaga steps up to the plate.

A free kick to the Hondurans!

Honduras seems to be growing in confidence as again the crowd makes their presence felt.

A heavy challenge on Rodriguez by the American. The crowd is having none of it.

as we get underway it's clear the Honduran fans are determined to be the 12th man!

What time is it? GAME TIME!

We're almost ready!

Though there have been doubts surrounding the USMNT, their destiny is still in their own hands. A win tonight and they will find themselves on 5 points after 3 games played. What's that mean? Qualification is still very much doable.

Ricardo Pepi is out here making history. The question is what will his future be like?

And here we have the starting 11 of Honduras

The starting 11 is in!

Former USMNT player Taylor Twellman can't wait!

The USMNT come into this match without one of their star players as Weston Mckennie was suspended for breaking covid-19 protocols. Mckennie, who has been guilty of such violations before was sent back to Italy where he currently plays for Juventus.

Honduras vs USA: How to watch

You can check out how to watch Honduras vs USA here.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the USMNT’s visit to the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, where they play Honduras looking to pick up valuable points in the scramble to qualify for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Both teams are still looking for their first win in the CONCACAF 2022 World Cup qualifiers with both sides having played two and drawn two. Honduras drew 1-1 with Canada in their first match and followed that with a goalless encounter against El Salvador.

The USMNT meanwhile also drew 0-0 with El Salvador and followed that up with a 1-1 tie against Canada.

The top three teams in the region qualify for Qatar, the fourth-placed side goes into a play-off.

On a 'must win' night in Honduras the USMNT showed real grit as they overcame a plucky Honduras side backed by staunch local support. The game got off to a nervous start - for the Americans - as they came to grips with a Honduran team that seemed determined to simply over run their opposition.

Talisman Christian Pulisic seemed frustrated as he struggled to get the best both out of himself and his midfield. It was then that Honduras struck. With a diving header at the back post, Brayan Moya put them 1-0 up, a lead they would maintain until the half.

The second half began much as the first ended with Honduran pressure. Then as if out of nothing the US struck with a rebound shot from Antonee Robinson to equalize. At this point the difference in pedigree began to show as the Americans slowly took control. A defensive error allowed DeAndre Yedlin to cross for the young star Ricardo Pepi to head home. This was quickly followed by another error which gave way a Bredan Aaronson goal with a right footed shot to the top right corner. To put the matter to bed a final goal was scored by Sebastian Lletget with a right footed shot to the far corner. In the end the Hondurans will rue their defensive mishaps and the Americans will feel a 4-1 score is justified having shown real character.
