Manchester United face Newcastle at Old Trafford in what promises to be a momentous day for the club and its supporters, with Cristiano Ronaldo set to make his eagerly anticipated second debut for the Red Devils more than 12 years since his departure to Real Madrid.

Ahead of the game, United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Ronaldo was not bought to sit on the bench and he expects the five-time Ballon d'Or winner "to make us a better team."

If Ronaldo scores on Saturday, only Wayne Rooney (Everton - 13y, 121d), will have a longer period without scoring a Premier League goal for a specific club than the Portuguese (Man Utd - 12y, 124d).

"Cristiano will know himself that it's not going to be as simple or as straightforward for him as it was in Spain or in Italy," said Rooney ahead of his former United's teammate return to Premier League action.

"It's a physical league. He knows, he's played in it. I'm sure he's prepared and ready to go and score goals for Manchester United."
