The Green Bay Packers returned home with the intention of forgetting about their blowout loss in week one. They did just that on Sunday night against the Detroit Lions with a big second half from Rodgers and company. Aaron Jones scored four touchdowns to lead the Packers to a 35-17 win in Lambeau on Monday night.
NFC North winless in Week 1
None of the four teams in the NFC North came out of Week 1 with a win. That was the good news for the Packers, the bad news was no team was beaten as badly as they were in the NFL’s opening weekend.
Regining NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers called for calm saying that it was just one game, and there was no need to panic. If ever there was a depiction of some one staying calm after catastrophe it was the No. 12 in Green and Gold.

Rodgers was nearly perfect on his return to Lambeau after a turbulent offseason. Rodgers wasn’t the only one who brought a calming presence to the football crazed city of Green Bay. Aaron Jones had a dream day for fantasy owners, scoring four touchdowns, three of them came from Rodgers passes.
Jared Goff got the Lions off to a quick start, marching Detroit down the field with a five minute drive that was capped off by a Quintez Cebus touchdown catch.
The Packers responded with an opening touchdown drive of their own, courtesy of an Aaron Rodgers tap pass to Aaron Jones for a four yard TD catch. The touchdown would be both Aarons first of four on the night.
Lions led at half
The Lions and Packers exchanged touchdowns again in the second quarter, and just before half Detroit took a 17-14 lead with an Austin Seibert field goal.
That would be the last points Goff and the Lions scored. Green Bay scored 21 unanswered points as Jones and Rodgers shredded the Detroit defense. The Packers defense turned up the pressure and forced four turnovers in the second half.
Packers dominated 2nd half, scored 21 unanswered
Green Bay came out of the halftime break, and barley gave the Lions a chance to touch the ball in the third quarter. After a quick Packers touchdown on the first drive on the third quarter, the Lions were stopped on 4th down on the Green Bay 25. Dan Cambell’s side didn’t bounce back after the turnover on downs.
Detroit took just nine snaps in the third, while the Packers took an 11 point lead into the final quarter. The Packers would not look back, extending the lead to with another touchdown and locking down the Lions defensively.
The Packers performance on Monday will certainly easy some of the pain of Week 1, and give cheeseheads around the Bay plenty to look forward to the season, but as Aaron Rodgers said after the loss to the Saints, it’s a long season and this was just one game.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Packers will be hoping to put their Week 1 blowout defeat behind them and move on to divisional rival the Detroit Lions on Monday Night. AS English will be keeping you up to date with live coverage, stats, scores and highlights of tonights primetime matchup from Lambeau Field.
Both NFC North teams are coming in off of opening week losses, but in drastically different fashions. Fortunately for the Packers and the Lions the rest of the teams in the division lost as well.
No one in the division or the league suffered a worse defeat than the Green Bay Packers, who were blown out by the New Orleans Saints. The game, which was originally supposed to be played in New Orleans, was played in Jacksonville.
That didn’t stop Jameis Winston from throwing for five touchdowns on 148 yards passing. The Saints QB threw just 20 passes, completed 14 of those passes, and five of those completions went for six points.
The Pack managed just three points and had a total of 244 yards all game. Rodgers who was the talk of the offseason, not shying away from speculation that he was searching for a summer departure from the Frozen Tundra.
The Lions has a wretched first half, giving up 31 points to the San Francisco in the opening two quarters. They trailed 31-10 going into the third quarter, but make a massive comeback late in the game.
Led by Jared Goff, the Lions roared back and were in a possession of tying the the contest late in the fourth quarter. Goff threw 57 times and completed 38 of those passes. He had three touchdowns and an interceptions in the comeback bid at Ford Field.
Look for Rodgers to have a make up day for a dismal start to his season last week. Jimmy Garoppolo tore the Lions to bits in the first week of the season. The reigning MVP will not be tamed for too long. Rodgers may be looking to make up for an offseason in which he made the Lambeau faithful suffer as they weren’t certain they’d see the No. 12 in Green and Gold again.
While Rodgers has a handful of quality options at wide receive like Davante Adams and Aaron Jones, Goff is a bit more shorthanded on the receiving end. Tight end T.J. Hockenson had 97 yards to lead the Lions, but the next best receiving game came from running backs DÁndre Swift and Jamaal Williams combined for 121 yards.
They will need Kalif Raymond, Quintez Cephus and Amon-Ra St. Brown to have a big night tonight if they’ll have any chance of beating the Packers on the road.
