Manchester United: "Cavani to Real Madrid? It's a possibility"
Edinson Cavani's advisers have not ruled out a January move to Real Madrid for the Manchester United striker after Cristiano Ronaldo's return.
Edinson Cavani has recently been linked with a move to Real Madrid following the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford, which has pushed the Uruguay striker down the pecking order and left his role in an increasingly stacked attacking line at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's disposal uncertain that big-money signing Jadon Sancho is unable to get anywhere near either at the moment.
Cavani joined United from PSG in 2020 on an initial one-year deal and extended his stay for another season during the summer but has not enjoyed much playing time, featuring only three times in the Premier League for a total of 104 minutes. GIven the competition for places at United and the lack of a back-up striker at Madrid should anything befall the in-form Karim Benzema, rumours have been rife of a move by the Bernabéu to bring in Cavani on an initial six-month loan deal in January.
Cavani could fit the bill as stop-gap option for Madrid
Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo claims to have spoken to Cavani's inner circle of advisers, who have been quick to suggest that it is a definite possibility. "Could Cavani go to Real Madrid? It's a possibility. Football is very dynamic," Mundo Deportivo was reportedly told. "It's an open possibility and can't be ruled out at all."
Madrid could well be in the market for a cheap striker option in January as the Bernabéu board bides its time over potentuial moves for PSG forward Kylian Mbappé and Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. The Frenchman will be free to negotiate with clubs outside of Ligue 1 in January if he doesn't sign a new contract at the Parc des Princes and Cavani could provide a useful stop-gap for Carlo Ancelotti's side, who remain heavily reliant on the continued brilliance of Benzema.
