Los Angeles Rams 26-17 Seattle Seahawks summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Week 5

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - OCTOBER 07: Running back Darrell Henderson #27 of the Los Angeles Rams celebrates with tight end Johnny Mundt #82 after rushing for a second half touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on October 07, 2021 in Seattle, W

Rams defeat the Seahawks to stay second in NFC West

Game Summary: Seahawks can't keep up with the Rams

The mostly uneventful game ended up with a Rams win, keeping them in second place in the NFC West. What we expected to be an explosive offensive game ended up being mostly defensive, with the offense leaving something to be desired.

The Seahawks loss came after a dislocated finger took QB Wilson out of the game, though that didn't seem to actually affect the Hawks in a negative way as Geno Smith took them down the field immediately for a TD and 98-yard drive. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't enough. They had a chance with 2:02 in the game as they were behind by six and had possession of the ball. However, Geno tripped himself up on his last drive and his throw was picked off by Scott, ending the game for the Seahawks.

It was a big game for Seahawks Metcalf who had two TDs and was the clear favorite target of Wilson. He scored both TDs for the Seahawks. Kupp had a great game for the Rams, too, putting up major yardage, though he didn’t account for any TDs. Someone who didn’t have such a good game was Rams kicker Gay. He missed a field goal, an extra point, and kicked two punts out of bounds.

The win puts the Rams at 4-1 with some defensive issues still to be sorted.

Nick Scott's pick closed the door on any comeback attempt the Seahawks had in mind.

Sony Michel puts the game out of reach late in the game

Geno Smith came in and made a big impact after Russ Wilson dislocated his middle finger on his throwing hand.

Can't say I've ever seen anything like this before.

The Stafford to Higbee connection is looking more and more dangerous every week.

Henderson gave the Rams the lead in the third quarter that they would not relinquish.

DeSaun Jackson had just one catch on the night, but made it count.

Metcalf getting the scoring going in the first half with his first of two TDs

The 4-0 winning streak in the blinding green has ended with the Rams defeat of the Seahawks

The Rams scored a touchdown on three of their first four possessions of the first half.

The first drive of the second half set the tone for the Rams. An 8 play 96 yard drive started the momentum shift in Seattle.

What a second half surge from the Rams who looked dead in the water in the first half.

Half-time mini report

At the half, the Seahawks are up 7-3, but the game has been overall pretty uneventful. It's been a mostly defensive game, with one interception on both sides in back-to-back drives and one turnover on downs for each side, too. Lots of back and forth and few scoring drives. The Seahawks even missed a measly 35-yard FG before the end of the half that should have put them ahead by 3 more points. Both sides are looking unenthusiastic. Let's see if the Rams and Seahawks can give us a more eventful second half here coming up.

Where are all the points? We were expecting fireworks in Seattle, but that was a watered down first half.

The Rams are down, but have a whole lot of time left.

DK Metcalf vs Jalen Ramsey: trash talk

The Seahawks and Rams play in Thursday Night Football’s NFC matchup with all eyes on star receiver Metcalf and cornerback Ramsey

Thursday Night Football promises to be an entertaining game all around. With the Los Angeles Rams traveling to take on the Seattle Seahawks, the Rams will be looking to take the second place spot in the NFC West, the best division in the NFL right now.

Then we have the rivalry between Seattle’s star receiver DK Metcalf and Rams’ star cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The battle between the two gained fire at the end of last season. Ramsey joined the Rams in 2019 and since then, Metcalf has recorded 14 receptions for 165 yards and no touchdowns. In their matchup last year in week 10, Ramsey shut down the third-year receiver completely.

Metcalf has proven to be an important weapon for the Seahawks with his ability to make big plays. But against Ramsey, his weaknesses show. Even his trash talk seems to get into Metcalf’s head. Ramsey himself has said that talking smack motivates him to play even better. The sixth-year NFL cornerback has proven he knows how to take out even the best receivers in the league, and he’s not afraid to talk about it.

Last year, the Seahawks beat the Rams 20-9 to win the NFC West title. Seahawks cornerback D.J. Reed made the comment, “I need my hat and shirt” when they’d secured the victory (referring to the NFC West championship T-shirt). Safety Jamal Adams added to the smack talk, saying. “Where my cigar at? I need my cigar!”

This got the Rams riled up.Two weeks later, the Rams and Seahawks met again in the wild card game, in which the Rams had the last laugh, beating the Seahawks 30-20 at home. Ramsey fired back. “They can take they hats and T-shirts to Cabo. They can keep the cigars, too!”

Just a week later, in the NFC divisional playoffs, Green Bay ended the Rams season, and the Seahawks took the opportunity to trash talk right back again. Adams tweeted, “See y’all in Cabo! Make sure y’all bring your own damn cigars too!”

Metcalf will need to ignore the trash talk coming from Ramsey this time around, as the Seahawks will be relying on him to make those big plays. “I’m an emotional person,” Metcalf said. “I play with a competitive edge and I’m not trying to lose anything, whether that’s an argument or a route, anything. I’m just going to compete my butt off.”

Stafford was the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a single season, being one of three players to do it in 2011, and was the fastest player in NFL history to reach 40,000 yards in (147 games).
He holds the NFL record for the most comeback wins in a season, recording eight in the 2016 NFL season In 2017, he signed a $135-million contract extension with the Lions, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time. He spent 12 years in Detroit and set the highest figures ever set by all Lions quarterbacks in these categories: passing yards,2,634, passing touchdowns, 30,303 and passer rating, 86.8. In 2021, he was traded to the Rams in exchange for quarterback Jared Goff and a draft compensation. Stafford ranks in the top 20 all-time in pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns, and ranks third all-time in passing yards per game.

Fun fact of the day the Seahawks have not been flagged for for offensive holding all year long. 4 games 0 holds, we´ll see what Aaron Donald has to say about that.

Over under 300 yards for Matt Stafford tonight?

They may not be the prettiest, but they certainly are affective. 4-0 in the action green get up... and 2-0 against the Rams.... In the legendary words of Sam Jackson: Hold on to your butts.

The Seahawks jerseys... smash or pass?

The LA fans have made the trip up the coast as they look cancel out the noise made by Seattle´s ¨12th Man¨

NFL Picks for Week 5: Buffalo Bills will beat Kansas City Chiefs

Bold prediction: Seahawks 28-25 Rams

Russell Wilson in the MVP conversation. That's enough to persuade our Picks Man to go for 28-25 Seahawks win, in what he reckons to be "one of the most entertaining duels of the week."

In other predictions, Buffalo Bills will beat the Kansas City Chiefs.

Expect fireworks in tonight´s game. The Rams are averaging over 28 points per game while the Seahawks are posting over 25 points a game through the first four weeks of the season.

Hello everyone and welcome to Lumen Field, where Russell Wilson and Matt Stafford are getting set for a NFC West showdown. Both teams are trying to keep up with the undefeated Arizona Cardinals who have started the season on a tear on the shoulders of Kyler Murray.

It’s an NFC West dual to start Week 5 in the NFC as the 3-1 Los Angeles Rams travel to Seattle to take on the 2-2 Seahawks. AS English will be keeping you up to the minute with live coverage, updates, scores, and stats of Thursday Night Football from Lumen Field.

The Rams are looking to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals. Kyler Murray and the Cardinals racked up nearly 500 yards of offense on the Los Angeles defense in the 37-20 win in the matchup of undefeateds.

The going doesn’t get much easier from here for the Rams. They are in the midst of a meaty part of their schedule where they played, and beat the defending Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then the Cardinals, and now they will be going toe-to-toe against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle bounced back with a Week 4 win over the 28-21 win over the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday. It was by no means a statically incredible game. Russell Wilson threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns while the running game lead by Alex Collins piled up over 100 yards.

Pete Carroll’s side could easily be 3-1 coming into Week 5, but they let a 15 point fourth quarter lead slip only to lose in overtime to the Tennessee Titans.

Matt Stafford could be geared up for a monster night as the Seahawks secondary has been reeling of late. They gave up 457 yards to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance last week and they are allowing an NFL-worst 444.5 yards a game.

The Rams quarterback is averaging over 300 yards of offense, and has an 11-2 touchdown to interception ratio with an impressive 116 passer rating through four games of the season.

He will be playing second fiddle to Wilson tonight though who has been locked in at the quarterback position. The Seahawks signal caller leads the NFL in passer rating at 129.9 and yards per attempt with 9.6 yards per throw. Meanwhile his 72.5% completion percentage is good enough for fourth in the league.

Wilson has the luxury of throwing at freakishly huge, but agile DK Metcalf who is one of the top receivers in the league, but Pro Bowl quarterback Jalen Ramsey will be keeping a watchful eye on the 6-4 235 pound receiver. Metcalf had over 200 yards in three matchups with the Rams last year.

Tonight’s game will kick off from Seatlle, Washington at 8:20 ET on NFL Network, and FOX.
