Giants at Cowboys: Game Summary

The Cowboys defeated the Giants 44 to 20 to give them their fourth straight win. The game puts the Giants at 1-4.

Injuries in the game

Injuries dominated the talk of the game on Sunday. In the first half, the Giants lost their star running back Saquon Barkley to a gnarly ankle injury. Shortly after, they lost their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones with a helmet-to-helmet, leading to a concussion and the end of the game for Jones. Receiver Kenny Golladay and cornerback Rodarius Williams both suffered injuries during the game as well and though left tackle Andrew Thomas was active, he didn't end up playing due to a foot injury.

Cowboys out-play the Giants

At the start of the game, Prescott threw an interception and the Giants were set up to make a field goal. Things started off strong for New York, but they botched the field goal and it was Dallas' ball again. On that drive, the Boys were able to make their own FG attempt at 31 yards to give them the lead 3-0.

It was in the first quarter that Barkley suffered the ankle injury and had to leave the game. The Cowboys had everything going for them after that, made it all the way down the field, and just when it looked like they'd get the first TD of the game, Prescott fumbled a bad snap and it was recovered by the Giants. Fortunately for them, the Giants didn't exactly take advantage of that, getting basically nowhere and giving the ball right back to Dallas again.

In the second quarter, Prescott threw a 49-yard TD pass to CeeDee Lamb to give them a 10-0 lead. Not long after that, the Giants returned with an explosive play of their own, with a 43-yard pass by Jones and caught by Toney, who turned out to be the star of the game for the Giants. That play set up a 51-yard FG by Gano to make the game 10-3.

With less than five minutes in the first half, Jones threw a pass to Toney for 28 yards, putting them right up to 1st and goal. This is when Jones had that unfortunate head injury. On 3rd and 1, he tried to run it into the endzone, but collided with Jabril Cox in a rough helmet-to-helmet, leading to his leaving the game. On 4th down and with Jones out, the Giants went for it with backup QB Glennon handing it off to Booker to get the TD. Giants tied the game 10-10 before the half. But the half wasn't over yet and the Cowboys hadn't given up. Prescott threw a 24-yard TD pass to Amari Cooper with just 41 seconds left in the half to give the Cowboys a 17-10 lead over the Giants.

In the second half, Gano gave the Giants 3 more points with his 51-yard FG, putting the score at 17-13 in the third quarter. The Cowboys responded with a Zeke TD pass to put them up even further, 24-13.

The Cowboys just kept going and going as they scored another FG and another TD, putting them up 34-13 in the fourth quarter. The Giants hadn't completely given up and Glennon threw a TD pass to Booker, making the score 34-20 in the fourth quarter with time left to play.

In that time, though, the Giants didn't do anything else, and the Cowboys did. They scored a total of 10 more points, giving them a 24-point lead and eventually leading to the Cowboys 44-20 victory over the NFC East rivals the NY Giants.

Toney ejected from game for punching Kazee in the face

Rookie receiver Kadarius Toney was the star of the game for the Giants with 10 receptions and 189 yards. He was very much the saving grace for the Giants after all those injuries. Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard were out from the start and Kenny Golladay was ruled out during the game with a knee injury. So Toney was the hero everyone was counting on, and he was delivering! But then...

Toney caught a pass from backup QB Glennon and the Cowboys defense was all over him. At the end of the play, Cowboys Damontae Kazee approached him and threw him to the ground. That did not go over well with Toney. He retaliated by punching Kazee in the helmet with a closed fist.

He was disqualified from the game and got a talking to from coach Joe Judge.

The Giants have kicked off! And it's gametime!

Amari Cooper active against Giants

Cooper (hamstring) is listed as active for today's game against the Giants. He was limited in practice this week and previously listed as Questionable. He's prepared to lead Dallas along with CeeDee Lamb. So far, Cooper has caught 22 of 29 targets for 258 yards and three TDs so it's a very good thing the Cowboys have him. Let's hope he can play at full capacity today.

A few facts about the Cowboys and Giants history

These Cowboys fans are ready for the game tonight! Are you?

Cowboys make moves to improve defense with release of Jaylon Smith

This week, the Cowboys released linebacker Jaylon Smith. Now, it's up to the younger LBs, Micah Parsons and Jabril Cox along with veterans Leighton Vander Esch and Keanu Neal, to keep the Giants at bay.

The Dallas defense has been looking sharp this season, a big change from the 2020-21 season. But...the Giants have TEs Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph as well as RB Saquon Barkley, and the Dallas defense has shown some weaknesses in covering TEs and RBs. With those three, the Cowboys will need to be prepared for an explosive attack on defense. Neal is just returning after a positive Covid test, so he won't be in tip-top shape. Vander Esch has the tools to get it done, but let's see if he can stay consistent. Then there's Parsons, who struggled in week one against the Bucs WR Rob Gronkowski, allowing him 90 yards and two TDs. The rookies will need to step up tonight against the Giants.

But we know Jason Garrett's offensive schemes all too well by now and certainly, so do the Cowboys. He will protect his precious QB and give him quick passes. However, he did throw a curve ball last week when the Giants saw their first win against the Saints. He may be looking to create traffic down the middle to keep Cowboys linebackers on their toes and move the ball down the field more aggressively. The Cowboys weakness lies in its safeties not helping the linebackers, which could be why we saw the release of Smith.

Andrew Thomas was listed as Questionable before, but it's been announced that he will indeed play today against the Cowboys.

Giants coming off big win against Saints

The Giants finally got a W when they played the New Orleans Saints last week. The offense was looking strong, topping the 400-yard mark for the first time with 485 total offensive yards.

The Giants were down by 11 points in the fourth quarter, but came back to win it in overtime with 17 unanswered points. Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley had impressive performances.

Jones threw for a career-high of 402 yards and completed 28 of 40 passes and two TDs. He was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. In the fourth quarter and OT, he completed 14 of 19 passes for 203 yards and a TD.

Barkley also had his best game yet this season. He scored two TDs for the team and averaged 4 yards per carry with 126 yards from scrimmage. He also made a big impact in the passing game, catching five passes for 74 yards and a TD. The Cowboys run defense will be a challenge for Barkley, as Dallas is number six in rushing yards allowed and tied for fiftth with just two rushing scores allowed.
