Keylor Navas earns start for PSG against Marseille
El Classique between Olympique Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain ended in a scoreless draw and Navas played the full 90 minutes.
The rivalry for the starting position in goal between Keylor Navas and Gigi Donnarumma continues at Paris Saint-Germain. The head coach, Mauricio Pocchettino, decided to start Navas and left the Italian goalkeeper on the bench in the 0-0 draw between PSG and Olympique Marseille on Sunday at the Stade Vélodrome.
Navas has played more games this season
Pochettino has said in the past that he decides which goalkeeper will start before each game and he has been rotating both of them so far this season. But Keylor Navas has played more games than Gigi Donnarumma, who arrived in Paris this summer after winning the Euro 2020 with Italy.
The goalkeeper from Costa Rica has nine appearances across all competitions and two clean sheets. While Donnarumma only has five appearances and two clean sheets. So the competition will continue throughout the season for both goalkeepers and any mistakes they make could be costly for the near future.
Keylor Navas joined PSG in 2019 after winning several trophies with Real Madrid, including three consecutive UEFA Champions League’s. But the situation is not ideal for the 34-year-old and according to multiple reports Newcastle could make a bid for Navas for next season.
