Atlanta Falcons 3-43 Dallas Cowboys summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Week 10

The Falcons look to improve their record to above .500 for the first time since 2017 and the Cowboys look to come back from an embarrassing home loss.

Final score: Atlanta Falcons 3, Dallas Cowboys 43

Game Summary

The Dallas Cowboys came back after an embarrassing home loss to do to the Falcons basically the same thing the Broncos did to them, but worse. Dan Quinn, current Cowboys defensive coordinator and former Falcons head coach really stuck it to his old team, even if he said it wasn't about beating them specifically after they fired him. We know it had to feel good.

First Quarter

On their first drive, the Cowboys took it down the field fast and Prescott threw a touchdown pass to Ceedee Lamb to put the Cowboys up 7-0 early in the first quarter. Zuerlein is out with Covid and Hajrullahu was in and he came through on every single PAT and field goal. The Falcons respond with a field goal, putting the score at 7-3 early on. When the Falcons get the ball back again, they are brought to 4th and 7, and this is where the tone shifts for the rest of the game. They were within field goal range but decide to go for it, but Matt Ryan has no one to throw to, and Lewis stops Gage from getting the pass. They wouldn't score again for the rest of the game. Cowboys get the ball back and are also taken to 4th down and 5. They too decide to go for it, but unlike last week, they convert with a Prescott pass to Lamb who picks up 21 yards before the end of the first quarter.

Second Quarter

The Cowboys are in good field position at the start of the second quarter and Elliott brings the ball up the field and into the end zone for another touchdown, putting the Cowboys up 14-3. The Falcons go three and out and don't attempt to go for it this time. Prescott brings the Cowboys down the field and it's Elliott again who gets the Cowboys' third TD of the day, putting them up 21-3. The Cowboys defense showed no mercy to the Falcons. They go three and out again with an Armstrong sack on Ryan. Just after the punt return, the Cowboys quickly make it down the field and Prescott throws a huge pass right into the end zone that's caught by Lamb for HIS second TD of the game. The Cowboys are up 28-3. Atlanta can't get anywhere so they punt it with 44 seconds left in the half, but it is blocked and Dallas recovers it inside the end zone to give them another 6 points, putting them up 34-3. They go for two and it's successful, putting them up even further just before halftime, leading the Falcons 36-3.

Third Quarter

The Falcons don't make much headway before finally throwing an interception, caught by Brown. The Cowboys make their first big mistake of the game here when Elliott fumbles the ball on a peanut punch and it's recovered by Atlanta. It looks like the Falcons are going to catch a break here when Zaccheaus gets a huge catch and first down, but then Trevon Diggs does what Trevon Diggs does when the ball comes near him. He intercepts it and it's the Cowboys' game again. After a slight struggle, Prescott ends up running the ball into the end zone for yet another touchdown, putting the Boys up 43-3.

Fourth Quarter

Ryan threw another interception, this time caught by Lewis, the third Cowboys cornerback to catch an interception of the day. At this point, QB Cooper Rush comes in to play in place of Dak Prescott. Not much happened after that as time ran out and the Cowboys won it by 40 points, 43-3 over the Falcons.

Quinn's revenge

Prescott's questionable TD run

In the third quarter of the game, with the Cowboys up 36-3, Dak Prescott put his shoulder down and went in for another touchdown, putting the Cowboys up even further.

In some ways, you admire the guy for being the type to do that for the team, but in others...wtf you thinkin', Dak?? With a 33-point lead, did the Cowboys need that TD that desperately? It was a dangerous play for Prescott, who the Cowboys need to be healthy for the rest of the season more than they needed those points. He had to push himself through several Falcons defenders to get inside the end zone, and it really was just an unnecessary risk.

We did see the Cowboys win one game without Prescott, but without him, the team is a wild card and anything could happen. With him, they are Super Bowl contenders. Better safe than sorry, Dak.

Cowboys' Historic First Half

Everything just went the Cowboys' way in the first half of the game against the Falcons. Prescott's accurate passing, McCarthy's play calling, blocked punts, and of course, a 33-point lead at the end of the half. If you were worried about the Cowboys' loss last week, this beating should ease your mind a bit. The 36 points the Cowboys had at halftime are the most since 1980, when they had a 38-20 lead over the Niners. On top of that, the 29 points scored in the second quarter are the most points the Cowboys have scored in any quarter of any game, ever.

This whole league’s about responding, whether it’s in-game, the next game, the next series. You have to respond, and the most important thing is just keep it about yourself.'

Mike McCarthy, Dallas Cowboys head coach

I think the Cowboys fans are happy...

First Half Summary

Fourth downs are the story of the first half for the Cowboys and Falcons. Remember when Jason Garrett would almost never go for it on 4th down? I am loving this new boldness the Cowboys team are showing.

In the first half, the Falcons were brought to 4th down three times and they went for it once with no luck. Cowboys were brought to 4th down twice and converted it for a touchdown both times.

The Falcons seemed to lose their momentum after that 4th down fail, but the Cowboys just kept gaining more with every drive. They are looking way more like the team we’ve seen all season. Last week was a strange one for the Boys, who lost 30-16 at home to the Denver Broncos, barely avoiding a complete shutout.

That’s not the case today. An NFL team leading the game by 33 points in the first half is unbelievable in itself, but the Falcons are coming off their biggest win of the season against the Saints in New Orleans. This has to be satisfying for Dan Quinn, the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator who was the Falcons' former head coach. He is now the most successful defensive coordinator in Cowboys history, with a record of 6-2-0.

After the Falcons decided not to go for the field goal on 4th down, the Cowboys went for it twice on 4th down and then saw two Ceedee Lamb touchdowns and two Zeke Elliott touchdowns. They didn't stop there though. With just 44 seconds in the half, the Falcons punted the ball but it was blocked and recovered by Cowboys Nahshon Wright for another Cowboys touchdown. After a penalty on the Falcons, the Cowboys go for two and they get it, putting them up 38-3 at the end of the first half.

0:00

And that's it for the first half. Cowboys up by an incredible 33 points against the Falcons with Prescott, Elliott, and Lamb dominating the Falcons defense.

0:30

Dallas takes their third timeout

What a first half!! With 37 seconds left in the half, the Cowboys are up 36 to 3 over the Falcons. They are on fire and the Falcons can't seem to stop them. After the Falcons' blocked punt is recovered (after 4th down) by the Cowboys, they get it in the end zone, go for two, and make it a 33-point lead before the second half.

The 2-point conversion is SUCCESSFUL! 36-3 Cowboys!

Cowboys are going to take the penalty and go for 2!

Penalty on defense - too many men on the field

Punt is BLOCKED and Dallas gets the ball IN THE END ZONE!!!! I can't believe it! The fans are going CRAZY at AT&T stadium!

0:44

Dallas takes second timeout

0:55

Micah Parsons SACKS Ryan and it's FUMBLED but Atlanta recovers it for no gain

Dallas has two Elliott TDs and now two Lamb TDs in the first half. The Falcons missed out on the field goal opportunity when they went for it on 4th and 7. Cowboys are up 28-3 in the first half.

Hajrullahu extra point is GOOD!

TOUCHDOWN DALLAS!

Prescott under pressure but he lofts it out into the middle and Lamb MAKES THE CATCH IN THE ENDZONE! What a gorgeous play!

2:00

Two-minute warning

2:02

Cowboys get the ball down the field quick with Lamb, Gallop, and Cooper picking up big yards to put them at the Falcons 12 just before the 2-minute warning.

Colquitt punts 60 yards to Cownoys 25 and it's Lamb with the return to the Cowboys 41 for 16 yards

Three and out yet again - Armstrong gets his first SACK of the year on Ryan, brings the Falcons to 4th and 20

The Cowboys are looking a lot more like the team we've been seeing all season compared to last week, when they seemed so off against the Broncos. Going for it on 4th down paid off again this time. As soon as they got the first down, they wasted no time and Elliott ran it in for his second touchdown of the game. Cowboys are up 21-3 with 8:07 left in the first half.

Hajrullahu extra point is GOOD!

Elliott runs it straight into the end zone for another Cowboys TOUCHDOWN!

Prescott has plenty of time and could just run it but he doesn't - he throws it and Gallop CATCHES it IN bounds just in front of the end zone!

The Cowboys are held to 4th down and 2...will they go for it on 4th and 2?

Elliott gets a gain of 9 and then Pollard with a gain of 8 to give the Cowboys the first down at the Falcons 32

Noah Brown gets his first catch of the day and he's wide open for a gain of 18 yards

Three and out for the Falcons and they're brought to 4th and 6 at the Falcons 30 and they don't go for it this time.

The Falcons went for it on 4th and 7 earlier in the game but were stopped. Cowboys went for it on 4th and 5 and got the 1st down and then some to get it all the way into the end zone with a Zeke touchdown to make it a 14-3 lead at the start of the second quarter.

Hajrullahu extra point is GOOD!

Elliott brings it up the middle for another Cowboys TOUCHDOWN!

Prescott tries to pass to Elliott but the coverage was too much - incomplete

Elliott bursts forward again and doesn't get the TD but does get the first down and it's 1st and goal

Oluokun was injured on the play. Oluokun and Elliott were former high school teammates.

Elliott takes the ball all the way down to the Falcons 3

0:00

Prescott pas COMPLETE to Lamb for the first down and then some! He picks up 21 yards and it's a first down at the Falcons 12 and that brings us to the end of the first quarter.

Prescott pass complete to McKeon for 12 yards - he's in for Jarwin who's on IR. First down at the Falcons 38.

Prescott pass deep to Lamb is incomplete to Lamb - penalty on Falcons - 5 yards, enforced at Cowboys 32

They go for it on 4th and Ryan can't find anyone, he throws and it is INCOMPLETE as Lewis stops Gage yet again - Cowboys will get the ball at their own 32

Lewis bats the ball away from Gage and now the Falcons are at 4th and 7 in field goal range

Ryan pass incomplete as Golston batted the ball down just at the line of scrimmage - 3rd and 7

4:28

Ryan throws two deep passes to Patterson and Pitts and the Falcons are at 2nd and 7 at the Dallas 35

After the penalty and some dropped passes and sloppy incompletes. the Cowboys punt and the Falcons get the ball back

Penalty on Dallas - False Start - 5 yards, enforced at Cowoys 25

Falcons can't get the TD but they get down to field goal range and respond to Dallas' TD with a FG.

Koo 35-yard field goal is GOOD

Play was REVERSED - Ryan pass incomplete

Ryan's pass is caught by Gains, but Dallas challenges it - definitely looks like it was dropped before his knee was down - play is under review

At 2nd and 7, Ryan has to throw it away for an incomplete to Zaccheaus

Pitts and Patterson both picking up huge yardage to get down the field quick.

First drive from the Falcons and it's Pitts for a big 17-yard gain

The Cowboys' incredible comeback in the last Falcons matchup

In week two of the 2020 season, the Falcons were off to a great start, forcing two turnovers, a failed fake punt, and scoring 20 points in the first quarter. At halftime, the Falcons were up by 19 points, 29-10.

For the Cowboys, that was no problem. Dak Prescott went on to score three rushing touchdowns and one more TD to put the Cowboys in a position to win it. The Falcons were up by one, and only needed to recover an onside kick to win the game. But take a look at this sad Special Teams play in this video. For some reason, the Falcons just watched the ball trickle 10 yards down field, allowing Dallas one more possession, which Prescott took full advantage of and took them into field goal range. Zuerlein kicked the winning field goal and Dallas won it.

What to know about the teams

The Falcons are hot off a big win in New Orleans against the Saints. The game was close, but Atlanta pulled through to get a close 27-25 win. Quarterback Matt Ryan passed for 343 yards on 30 attempts and two touchdowns. The Falcons' win brought them up to 4-4.

The Cowboys, on the other hand, came into week 9 with six straight wins, but then went 30-0 against the Denver Broncos until the fourth quarter of the game, scoring two TDs in garbage time. This was a shocking loss - Dallas was favored to win by a long shot. The loss brought them to 6-2, but they still remain at the top of the NFC East.

The Falcons have just four rushing touchdowns in the entire season, the third worst in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have 434.4 yards on average per game, the best in the league. The odds are highly stacked in Dallas' favor, but as we've seen, that doesn't always mean anything.

Hello everyone and welcome to our live feed of the Falcons vs Cowboys game! The Falcons are traveling to Dallas to take on the 6-2 Cowboys, coming off a big win against the Saints in New Orleans. Cowboys will look to redeem themselves after their first home loss to the Broncos last week. We'll have all the updates, scores, and commentary right here.
