Salcedo sends Tigres UANL to the semi-final
The Mexican international scored in the 82nd minute to give Tigres the win over Santos Laguna to book their ticket to the next round.
Miguel Herrera is the only Mexican manager in the Liga MX 2021 Apertura playoffs and he has led Tigres UANL to the semi-final in his first year at the helm. In the first leg of the quarter-final the Monterrey-based team lost on the road against Santos 2-1. In that match the ‘Felines’ were down 2-0, but André-Pierre Gignac was able to find the back of the net to keep their hopes up with 90 minutes left of the series.
Another late goal sends Tigres to the next round
On Sunday, Tigres hosted Santos Laguna at the Estadio Universitario and a win was enough for them to advance to the semis because they finished one place higher than Santos at the end of the regular season. The No 4 seeded team scored a late goal to defeat the No 5 seeded side to move on to the next round.
In the 82nd minute Carlos Salcedo controlled the ball inside the box and shot a missle with his left foot to find the back of the net. This was his second goal of the campaign and the most important one so far because it gave Tigres the ticket to the semi-final. Salcedo was given the Man of the Match award after his all-around performance during the 90 minutes.
