Ignacio Ambriz reaches an agreement to manage Toluca next year
‘Los Diablos’ lost to Pumas UNAM in the wildcard game of the Liga MX 2021 Apertura and the bosses decided to part ways with Hernan Cristante.
Hernan Cristante failed in his second stint as manager of Toluca and the bosses decided to part ways with him after they lost to Pumas UNAM 2-1 in the Wildcard game of the Liga MX 2021 Apertura campaign. A few weeks after the tough elimination they announced that Ignacio Ambriz had reached an agreement to return to Mexico and take over the managerial job for the next tournament.
Ambriz has proven to be a winning coach in Mexico
“Hard work, commitment, good tactics and discipline is what unites Toluca and Ignacio Ambriz. Welcome, this is your new home,” read the statement from the team. The Mexican manager has proven himself as a winner during his time in the Liga MX.
The last club he managed in Mexico was Club León and he won the 2020 Guardianes tournament, his first league title as a coach. He also won the Copa MX in 2018 with Necaxa and the CONCACAF Champions League in the 2015/16 campaign.
This summer he was appointed as the head coach of SD Huesca in the Spanish second division, but after four months he was sacked. The team made the news official in late October because they registered five losses in the current season and he left them with 15 points out of a possible 36.
