Real Madrid are uncomfortable about Reinier's situation at Borussia Dortmund, says father
Reinier's father Mauro Brasilia chatted to AS about his son's situation at Borussia Dortmund, where he hardly been given any playing time.
Reinier Jesus' father Mauro Brasilia sat down with AS to discuss his son's situation at Borussia Dortmund, where he has been struggling to get playing time. The Brazilian decided to join the Bundeliga side on loan for several reasons - they are in the Champions League and usually give opportunities to younger players. But it hasn't worked out as he had expected - he has totalled just 53 minutes playing in the Bundesliga so far this season.
How can you explain Reinier's situation at Borussia Dortmund?
The club wanted to buy Reinier when he was at Flamengo. We spoke to a number of club officials, but it was impossible to say no to Real Madrid. When the option of a loan surfaced we thought that it would be a good place for a young player like him. But Dortmund haven't catered for Reinier's needs. If there is no kindness it's impossible. Duing the first season, they said that he wasn't at the same level as his team mates in the tactical-physical part, but now there are no excuses.
How is he feeling emotionally?
I'm sure that the experience has been positive for him because you also learn through difficulties and hardship. He'll emerge stronger. Reinier is professional with everyone. He gets on well with his team mates, he works very hard…
But he's not getting opportunities to play...
He can't understand it. He hasn't had opportunities and once he get a game, the spotlight is on him. But that's fine, it's not the first time that people have talked about Reinier. He's learning by going down a different route because he doesn't understand battling things that are going against him. Dortmund haven't prepared him for big moments. We never asked that he should always be in the starting XI, we've only asked that he gets enough playing time to be able to develop.
Are Madrid keeping a close watch on his situation?
Yes! Madrid is a club that does things peoperly and of course they have been following what has been going on. Madrid feel quite uncomfortable about the situation, but they can't do anything about it. We are very grateful to them for all they've done. The original plan was a two-year loan to see how he got on before turning to Madrid, but now that is much more difficult. But there is always time in life to change things, as my wife always says. He learned a lot at Castilla and he took a lot from what Vinicius and Rodrygo were doing.
What does Vinicius mean to him?
For Reinier, Vinicius is an example to follow. They are very good friends. It's good that he is so close to Vini because he is a hard worker. He received a lot of criticism, but he replied out on the pitch. We love Rodrygo and Valverde too…
Is there a chance that Reinier could return to Spain next month?
We would like Reinier to return to Spain, but Dortmund didn't want to break the loan deal last season and I doubt they will this time. We have got to wait to see what they say. All of this is putting Reinier's quality in doubt. Ideally, he will return to Spain. Reinier would like to go back to Spain, that would be the icing on the cake.
What can you tell us about Haaland?
My son is always with Haaland. They get on really well… Haaland is special and deserves everything that is happening to him.
