The Minnesota Vikings (5-6) are keen to keep their hopes of making the 2021 NFL postseason alive. However, they will go into tomorrow's clash with the Detroit Lions with a notable absentee.

Head coach Mike Zimmer confirmed that running back Dalvin Cook is ruled out of Sunday's game at Ford Field after dislocating his left shoulder in the defeat to the San Francisco 49ers.

The two-time Pro Bowler rushed 975 yards with four touchdowns from scrimmage while playing 71% of the offensive snaps in nine games according to Pro Football Reference data.

While Cook recovers, Boise State prodigy Alexander Mattison will be handed his third start of the season. The 23-year-old has tallied 464 yards and two touchdowns after 109 offensive touches.

Other absentees

Apart from Cook, Mike Zimmer confirmed that tackle Christian Darrisaw and safety Camryn Bynum are also ruled out of the Lions game. Both Darrisaw and Bynum are carrying ankle injuries.

Elsewhere, linebackers Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr plus cornerback Mackensie Alexander are doubtful.
