Simeone's team selection doubts ahead of Sunday's Madrid derby
El Cholo is deliberating over his starting XI against Real Madrid. Correa could start, Lemar and Carrasco are competing for a place; Suárez or Cunha up front.
Atlético continue preparations for Sunday's derby against Real Madrid. There was a boost for Simeone in today's session - Luis Suárez trained as normal and should be available for the evening game at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The coach has another 24 hours to settle on his starting line-up as he will be without Giménez, Savic, Trippier and Vrsaljko and once again Atlético will have to improvise at the back with Geoffrey Kondogbia as a makeshift centre-back. From what we have seen on the training ground this week, two positions remain up in the air. El Cholo must also decide on what formation to field against Madrid - he could revert back to a back four with Hermoso at left-back or stick with a five-man defence, with three central defenders in a bid to crowd out the top-scoring side in LaLiga.
Possible Atleti starting XI in the derby
Simeone appears to be clear about a few aspects of his team - Oblak will be accompanied by Marcos Llorente, either as a right-back or wing-back; he will be joined by Felipe, who returns to the side after missing the Porto game through suspension, Kondogbia and Hermoso. Koke and De Paul are first choice in central midfield, Correa could start out wide on the right, to link up with Llorente and help out defending the Madrid's attacks from down the left where they are particularly dangerous. For Atleti, the main doubt is on their own left left flank. Carrasco and Lemar are in contention to start. It's a similar situation in attack where Simeone must decided who partners Griezmann - Suárez or Matheus Cunha.
