The Kansas City Chiefs have silenced all the skeptics who were chattering at the beginning of the season claiming the Chiefs reign over the AFC was coming to an abrupt end. After a slow start, Patrick Mahomes and KC are red hot and looking like one of the favorites to represent the conference in the Super Bowl yet again.

Chiefs shake off slow start

Truth be told, it was an ugly start to the season for the Chiefs. After barley squeaking by the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, KC lost three of their next four and panic started to set in around the Show Me State.

Mahomes and they loaded offensive unit at Andy Reid’s disposal was posting big stats and plenty of points, but the defense was seriously called into question after allowing over 30 point per game in the first five weeks of the season.

Turnaround after Titans game

The Chiefs hit rock bottom when they got thumped 27-3 in Nashville at the hands of the Tennessee Titians. Kansas City went into crisis mode, but Mahomes and company called for calm despite going through very few of these mid season slumps over the past few years.

Since the loss to the Titans the Chiefs have won six straight, and are the hottest team in the league outside of New England. Kansas City’s waxing of a wounded Las Vegas Raiders team puts them at 9-4 on the season and gives them a one game edge over the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West.

All level in the AFC

There is now a three way tie for 1st place in the AFC and it looks like it will come down to the final week to determine who gets home field throughout the playoffs. They are level with the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans going into Week 15, and as of now the Patriots hold the tie breaker and would clinch home field if everything ended today.

Kansas City won’t be able to clinch the division or a playoff spot this week in a vacuum sealed AFC but they can take a huge step towards the playoffs with a win over division rival Los Angeles at the weekend. A loss would bump them out of the lead in the West since they lost their first match up to the Chiefs earlier in the season.

The Chiefs won’t have an easy end to their season. After the Chargers game they host Pittsburgh, go to Cincinnati and finish the season in Denver.
