Orlando City announce their second off-season signing
The Major League Soccer side will pay Uruguayan side Peñarol $10 million to sign the 21-year-old striker for the upcoming 2022 regular season.
Orlando City SC sold Daryl Dike to West Bromwich Albion during the winter transfer window and they have been searching for his replacement for a couple of days. According to several reports, the Lions have reached an agreement to sign Facundo Torres from Peñarol.
Torres should arrive next week
The Major League Soccer slide will pay $10 million for the 21-year-old and an extra $2 million in bonuses. Facundo Torres should arrive in Orlando next week to complete his move and join the club during the pre-season.
The 21-year-old plays as a second striker and a right winger and he has scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists in 71 appearances across all competitions for the Uruguayan side this season. Torres played in Peñarol’s youth academy which also produced Diego Rossi who joined LAFC in 2018 and in 2020 won the golden boot.
This is the second signing for Orlando City ahead of the start of the 2022 Major League Soccer campaign after acquiring midfielder Cesar Arujo from Montevideo Wanderers FC. The Lions are rebuilding their roster after the departures of Nani, Dike and Chris Mueller.
