Riley McGree was the second signing in the history of Charlotte FC and he is now the first outbound transfer in franchise history. The Australian attacking midfielder will join Scottish side Celtic and he becomes another MLS player that makes the switch to Europe this month.

McGree becomes fifth Celtic transfer

According to several reports, Charlotte FC will receive a little under $3 million from Celtic from this transfer, but they could potentially earn an extra $1-2 million depending on the player's performances. The MLS side acquired McGree in 2020 from Adelaide United and immediately loaned him to Birmingham.

This is the fifth January signing that the Scottish side has made and they are waiting to receive international clearance to announce the deal with Charlotte. McGree has scored two goals and provided two assists in 30 appearances across all competitions with the Blues so far this season.

He has impressed during his time in the Championship and several clubs were keen on signing him during the winter transfer window. Riley McGree has also six caps under his belt with the Australian national team and now he will join Celtic FC, who are in second place in the SPL.
