NYCFC player Jesús Media set to join CSKA Moscow
The Paraguayan player helped New York City FC win the 2021 MLS Cup and after four years he is ready to make the switch to Europe.
Jesús Medina has been a Designated Player for New York City FC for several seasons and helped the team win the 2021 MLS Cup, the first one in franchise history. Yet he will not return for the 2022 regular season as he has completed his move to CSKA Moscow.
Contract option declined by NYCFC
In mid-December, New York City FC declined the option to extend Medina’s contract for one more campaign and he joined the Russian Premier League side as a free agent. The reason behind that was to open a Designated Player spot for the upcoming season.
Jesús Medina made 101 regular-season appearances in Major League Soccer with NYCFC and he scored 23 goals and provided 15 assists. 72 times he started the games and he was usually used in the center or on the wing.
The 24-year-old Paraguayan midfielder joins CSKA Moscow, who currently sit in fourth place, and this will be his first time playing in Europe. It is expected that Medina will undergo a medical examination later this week to join the rest of the team in training and he signed a three-and-a-half year deal.
