Carlos Salcedo to complete move to Toronto FC
The Mexican international will leave Liga MX side Tigres UANL and will join Toronto ahead of the start of the 2022 MLS regular season.
Carlos Salcedo will play his last game for Tigres UANL this weekend. In the coming days, he will travel to Canada to sign for Toronto FC. The Major League Soccer side have included Yeferson Soteldo in the deal and he will join the Liga MX side.
Salcedo will become a designated player
The Mexican international will become a designated player for the reds for the upcoming 2022 Major League Soccer season. The swap deal will not involve any fees and he will return to the MLS after playing with Real Salt Lake in 2013 and 2014.
The Reds wanted to improve defensively after conceding the second-most goals in the league last time out. Salcedo is an experienced player and is capable of scoring goals. He has enjoyed success during his time in the Liga MX and even won the title with Tigres in 2019.
“It’s a massive move because it’s a Bob Bradley move in my opinion,” said Toronto’s midfielder Luke Singh during an interview when asked about the swap deal. “And he’s really kind of started to put his mark on the club. In the past we saw a lot of offensive weapons come in, but we never really saw a defensive stalwart like a Carlos Salcedo come in.”
