The Bengals are back
When quarterback Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals take the field on Sunday, it is surely going to be a moment to savor as it will mark the first time since 1988 that the franchise has made an appearance in the AFC Championship game. Burrow himself had to endure a playoff record of nine sacks during his team's 19-16 upset win over the No. 1 seeded Tennessee Titans last Saturday, which is to say it was no easy task. On that night, Burrow finished 28-of-37 for 348 passing yards, zero touchdown passes, and an interception. In the end it was rookie kicker Evan McPherson whose four field goals - including the game-winning 52-yard field goal at the whistle - won the game for Cincinnati. McPherson will surely be called upon again when they face off against Kansas City on Sunday evening.
The Chiefs are a class act
Watching last weekend's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills it was hard not to feel like one was watching the likely 2022 Super Bowl Champions in action. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs put on a show in Sunday night’s 42-36 win at home against the Bills. Incredibly, both teams managed to combine for 25 points in the last two minutes of the game, which lead to overtime, where the Chiefs put the final nail in Buffalo's coffin with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to TE Travis Kelce. On the night Mahomes passed for 378 yards with three touchdowns and if that wasn't enough also ran for 69 yards with another touchdown. In case you were wondering, that made him the first quarterback in NFL history with a 107.2 passer rating in the postseason.
It should be said that there is some added spice in this game in that the Bengals actually defeated the Chiefs 34-31 back in week 17 at Paul Brown Stadium on a night when Burrow threw for 446 yards to go with four touchdowns, while Mahomes threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns. Is there any sign of things to come with that game in mind? Expect fireworks on Sunday!
