Saints request interview with Eric Bieniemy
The offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs has long been a fan favorite in New Orleans and it looks like the Saints front office agrees with them
New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has been very clear that they will not be rushed into a decision in their search for Sean Payton’s replacement. They have had a steady stream interview process with some great candidates already and with Doug Pederson now off the market after he signed with Jacksonville, the Saints don’t seem to be sweating at all. They still have some high-profile interviews to come in the coming days including Byron Leftwich and perhaps Eric Bieniemy.
The Saints are being left by Payton in a very strong position, despite the headline-grabbing quarterback issues. In this search to replace one of the greatest offensive minds in the NFL, the Saints are definitely punching at the very top heavyweights.
Byron Leftwich is the offensive coordinator at NFC South rivals Tampa Bay, and is highly valued by Bruce Arians and Tom Brady. Eric Bieniemy is the offensive coordinator and architect of one of the most potent offenses in the NFL today in Kansas City. Either of these men could carry the Payton shock attack style of play forward.
Brian Flores is also in the running, even with the legal issue brought to light with the NFL. Loomis is adamant that the meeting with Flores went very well and the Saints were impressed with him. Whoever winds up getting the final nod, the Saints are playing their cards close to their chest, and one thing is certain, they won’t feel rushed no matter what.
