When it comes to top quality quarterbacks, it would appear that Joe Burrow knows his stuff. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback has set his sights firmly on Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers and intends - in time - to surpass him. Rodgers of course, was the recipient of his fourth NFL Most Valuable Player award on Thursday, it was his second in as many seasons. "I'm chasing Aaron Rodgers to try to be the best," Burrow said during the final day of Super Bowl media interviews. "He's been doing it for a long time."
Burrow did go on to mention two other notable QBs as he sat in the bleachers of UCLA's Drake Stadium. Recently retired QB and candidate for the 'Greatest Of All Time' title, Tom Brady was mentioned alongside the Kansas city Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes. In case you didn't know, Burrow's and his Bengals got the better of Mahomes and the Chiefs on two occasions this season. The most recent of those victories came on January 30th, when they clinched the AFC Championship and with it a spot in the Super Bowl.
Bengals' Burrow awarded but staying focused
Where the Packers' QB is concerned, the Bengals actually fell to Rodgers and co. back in Week 5 in an overtime loss. Speaking on the league's newly crowned MVP, Burrow said Rodgers "played great all year" and was deserving of the award. Burrow for his part, is no stranger to awards and recognition. The former Heisman Trophy winner was selected No.1 overall in the 2020 draft and is now one win away from a Super Bowl trophy. Incidentally, Burrow also received an award on Thursday night, when he was voted the league's Comeback Player of the Year at the NFL Honors in Los Angeles. Having suffered a season-ending knee injury in his rookie season, Burrow returned to lead Cincinnati to its first playoff berth in 2015.

Burrow did admit that he does wonder about the effect that a Super Bowl victory will have on the way people see him and his career, in comparison to other greats in the NFL's history. On the other hand, the rising star was quick to explain that it's not a focus at this time. "I try not to think about that kind of stuff because I think if you go down that road, you start worrying about the wrong things," Burrow said. "So I've tried to stay focused on the job at hand."
