MAYWEATHER VS PAUL

Floyd Mayweather to pay Logan Paul before FBI gets involved

No official winner was announced after Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul's fight in 2021, but a payment from The Money could be coming under pressure.

In June 2021, Floyd Mayweather held an exhibition fight against Logan Paul. It was agreed before the bout that the YouTuber would receive $14 million, a figure that has still not been paid by the legendary American boxer.

Could the FBI get involved in Mayweather-Paul payment?

Months after the fight, however, UFC legend Chael Sonnen has warned Mayweather on his YouTube channel that he must now pay Paul before the FBI steps in, after the YouTuber threatened legal action over the missed payment.

"It's a big problem for Paul. He signed a contract with the 'Money' team. That's a big problem.

"Everyone thinks it's a real business, it's not. It's a bank account that only goes one way: money comes in. They don't have a team. They don't have a staff. They don't have a lease. They have no obligations. They have no debt to service."

That's why Sonnen believes Mayweather could be in big trouble if he doesn't pay up and Logan decides to take legal action, because if the FBI intervenes, things could end badly for the 44-year-old fighter.

Mayweather vs Logan June 2021: what happened?

YouTuber Logan Paul impressed boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr in the pair’s exhibition fight, lasting all eight rounds of the bout in Miami.

Mayweather, 44, was in control throughout against a visibly tiring Paul, but the 26-year-old - whose 0-1 professional record pales in comparison to his opponent’s 50 wins out of 50 - survived until the last bell.

Mayweather praises "tough competitor" Paul

"He's a tough competitor, it was good action, had fun, I was surprised by him,” Mayweather said of Paul after the much-anticipated fight at the Hard Rock Stadium. “Good work."

Paul said: “I don't want anyone to tell me anything is impossible ever again. The fact that I'm in here with one of the best boxers of all times proves the odds can be beat.”

Fight rules: no judges, no official winner

According to the rules established by the Florida State Boxing Commission for Mayweather vs Paul, there were no judges for the match-up, meaning no winner could be determined if it went the distance.

Indeed, the rules stated that, while knockouts were allowed, there would be no official winner whatever happened in the ring. As an exhibition, the bout does not count towards either fighter's win-loss record.

Second exhibition fight of Mayweather's career

For Mayweather, who retired from professional boxing in 2017, this was his first fight since earning a technical knockout against Japanese kickboxer and mixed martial artist Tenshin Nasukawa in his only other exhibition clash to date, in December 2018.

Paul, who lost his only pro fight to fellow YouTuber KSI in 2019, was taking part in his first exhibition.
