Brazilian Serie A side Santos FC interested in Matías Almeyda

Santos FC is having a disastrous season in the Brazilian Serie A and they decided to part ways with Fábio Carille. The club appointed Marcelo Fernandes as the interim coach on 18 February and they have started interviewing full-time managers. Currently, Santos is in 10th place in the standings with 50 points and a record of 12 wins, 14 draws and 12 losses.

Almeyda on the radar

According to the latest reports, Matías Almeyda is among the final list of three coaches to take over the job and change the course of Santos. The Argentine coach joined MLS side San Jose Earthquakes in 2019 and his contract expires on 31 December 2022, with no talks about an extension beyond this campaign.

Santos wants to appoint a new manager as soon as possible and after losing to São Paulo 3-0 over the weekend, the team’s executive, Edu Dracena, said that there are three names on the list. So the Brazilian Serie A side could make an announcement in the next couple of days.

San Jose about to start the season

In the middle of these rumors, Matías Almeyda is preparing the Earthquakes debut in the 2022 MLS regular season. San Jose will start the campaign going on the road against NY Red Bulls on 26 February and this could be Almeyda’s fourth opening day in MLS, if he doesn't leave before the team's season debut.
