Los Blancos have Wednesday to look forward to now, when they welcome PSG to the Santiago Bernabéu.

They find themselves 1-0 down from the first leg against PSG, after Kylian Mbappé gave the Ligue 1 outfit the advantage with a late goal in Paris.  

Madrid move eight points clear at the top of the table with their win at the Bernabéu.

La Real are happy to soak up the pressure and hit Madrid on the break with the pace of Isak in attack.

Madrid are really struggling to find Benzema who is constantly surrounded by three. When he does link up, it's normally with Vinicius, who has also been quiet. 

Luka Modric tries his trademark outside of the boot cross. Le Normand is there to head away.

Rodrygo crosses from the right but there is nobody there and the away side can clear. 

Illarramendi played 59 times for Madrid between 2013 and 2015.

Madrid have found it difficult to break down the back five, who are protected by the brilliant Merino and former Madrid player Illarramendi in front. 

Real Sociedad are defending in a 5-3-2 with Zaldua and Gorosabel tucking in to help the three centre-backs.

Rodrygo finds space down the right. Camavinga plays it inside to Casemiro. Rodrygo picks it up once again and crosses from near the byline but Real Sociedad clear. 

You know it's a penalty when none of the Real Madrid players appeal the decision.

Ancelotti satisfied with Real Madrid's progress

Carlo Ancelotti insisted he is happy with the progress Real Madrid have made so far during his second spell in charge.

While they are out of the Copa del Rey, Madrid are still favourites for the title and are in with a chance of Champions League progression, albeit they must overcome a 1-0 deficit from the first leg of their last-16 tie when they face Paris Saint-Germain next week.

"We have done really good things this season. It could have been better, but could have been worse as well," Ancelotti said.

"I'm honestly happy with the work we've done, the job we've done throughout the season.

"I think we've handled quite well the situations and now we are where we wanted to be in a very important moment of the season."
