Question marks surround Cristiano's absence from the United squad today with many outlets claiming that the Portuguese is injured and that is the reasoning for his absence from the derby. Other outlets claim that the striker is not injured but being sidelined by German boss Rangnick over disciplinary issues....

Edinson Cavani (groin injury) and Scott McTominay (illness) missed Saturday’s draw at home to Watford. The latter returned to training on Wednesday. It remains to be seen if the Uruguayan will be passed fit to make the squad for today's match.
It was also mooted on Sunday morning that both Ronaldo and Varane would also miss the derby through injury.

Guardiola has a couple of injury concerns to deal with in defence. Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias had to be substituted due to problems during the victory over Peterborough. After the match, the City manager said: "Nathan finished bad in the action when he got the yellow card and Ruben was not feeling good in his leg. That's why, for caution and to be alert, we made the substitutions."
Guardiola has since confirmed that Dias will be out for between four and six weeks due to a muscular injury, which is a blow for City at the heart of their defence.
In the last five Manchester derbies, both teams have taken maximum points twice and there has been one draw. United have come out on top in four of the last five matches at the Etihad. City have earned the bragging rights so far this season, winning 2-0 in the league at Old Trafford in November.
With the league title out of reach, United's objective is to secure a top four place that would ensure Champions League football at Old Trafford for the 2022-23 season.
City are 19 points ahead of their city rivals and hold just a three point lead of Liverpool who are in hot pursuit of Pep Guardiola's men.
