Kylian Mbappé will face a late fitness test to determine his availability for PSG in the second leg of the Ligue 1 side’s Champions League tie against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu after picking up a foot injury in training on Monday. According to Le Parisien, the forward took a solid hit to his foot and will undergo tests to assess the extent of the damage, although initial reports suggest a break of any kind has been ruled out.

Mbappé, who did not feature in PSG’s loss to Nice at the weekend due to suspension, trained on Monday at the Camp des Loges complex with the rest of his teammates in the full expectation that he would start at the Bernabéu, where Mauricio Pochettino’s side hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg through the France international’s late goal at the Parc des Princes.

The presence of the World Cup-winner is fundamental to Pochettino’s plans and his absence would present the PSG boss with a huge problem before the return leg. Against Nice, who beat PSG 1-0 at the Allianz Riviera, PSG struggled to find any coherence in attack without Mbappé, who has been the most potent weapon at Pochettino’s disposal this season. For Madrid it would represent a huge bonus as they prepare to try and stage a European comeback having dispatched Real Sociedad 4-1 on Saturday to limber up for the visiting Ligue 1 side.

PSG medical staff "anxious" over Mbappé injury

Following Mbappé’s training ground injury, PSG carried out initial tests fearing he had fractured a bone, Le Parisien reported. The forward will now undergo further examinations to determine the extent of the damage, with Pochettino and PSG hoping those come back with positive results.

Meanwhile, French journalist Saber Desfas has said PSG’s medical staff are “anxious” about the forward’s prospects of making the Real Madrid game, while RTL France described Mbappé as touch and go for the Champions League return leg.
