Celtics star Jayson Tatum had one of the best games of his career on Sunday when he scored 54 points in Boston’s victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

Tatum vs Durant

Don’t be fooled into thinking this was an easy win by any means. Tatum and the Celtics were up against a Nets team that had both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the court together.

Durant went for 37 points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Irving had just 19 points on 18 shots. Tatum, on the other hand, had 54 points, all by himself, on 16-for-30 shooting, eight-for-15 from thee three-point range, and 14-for-17 from the foul, plus five rebounds and three assists.

With Durant’s 37 points, he became just the 23rd player in NBA history to reach 25,000 points and the seventh fastest to join that group. As impressive as he was, Tatum still outshone him. His 54 points against the Nets make the fourth time Tatum has scored over 50 in a game, tying Larry Bird for most in franchise history.

This win puts Boston at 39-27 and they sit at fifth place in the Eastern Conference, despite a rocky start to their season. It also proved, thanks mostly to Tatum, that they can hold their own just as well on offense.
