Being a female athlete hasn't always been easy. Though the fight for equality continues, these revolutionaries have paved the way for a brighter future.

Though the road to gender equality is a long and arduous one, we have already come a very long way in many parts of the world. In sports, women's are marketed much less, there are less opportunities, and in many cases, there is still a huge pay gap. Taking a look back at where women in sports were just 60 years ago, though, can help understand how far we've come and just how much we've achieved.
