Keylor Navas gets a standing ovation on his return to Madrid
Real Madrid eliminated Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League, but Keylor Navas received an ovation from the fans at Santiago Bernabeu.
Keylor Navas played five seasons with Real Madrid and he won a total of 12 titles, including one LaLiga title and three consecutive UEFA Champions League trophies. In 2019 the Costa Rica international left the Santiago Bernabeu and joined Paris Saint-Germain.
Navas returned to Madrid
On Wednesday night, Real Madrid hosted PSG at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium for the second leg of the round of 16 of the campaign, with the Ligue 1 side up 1-0. Prior to the beginning of the match, the fans from Real Madrid gave a standing ovation to Keylor Navas when he was out warming up and he waved back at them to thank the gesture.
Unfortunately, the manager of PSG, Mauricio Pochettino, decided to sit Navas and start Gianluigi Donnarumma instead and that decision he would regret at the end of the game. The Italian goalkeeper made a mistake that ended with Karim Benzema equalizing the game and eventually gave the home side the momentum they needed.
It took 17 minutes for the French striker to score a hat-trick and give the LaLiga giants the ticket to the next round with a 3-2 in aggregate. It was a very disappointing night for the majority of the PSG players, but more so to Keylor Navas who couldn’t do anything to help his team on the pitch.
