Which foreign movies are nominated for the 2022 Oscars?
Of the 93 movies submitted for the 2022 Oscars, only five will be up for the International Feature Film. “Drive My Car” will also look to win Best Picture.
The 94th Academy Awards will take place 27 March returning to its home at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. More countries than ever submitted films to compete for the International Feature Film Oscar this year.
The list of 93 was narrowed down to just five despite calls for the number of nominees to be expanded given the numerous submissions. The Japanese movie "Drive My Car" will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” from South Korea to take home the top prize of Best Picture as well as International Feature Film award.

“Drive My Car”
International Feature Film contender “Drive My Car” is the first Japanese movie to be nominated for Best Picture. Director Ryûsuke Hamaguchi is also competing for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director. “Drive My Car” is a drama about a renowned stage actor and director who must confront painful truths that are raised from his past.
“Flee”
Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s “Flee” from Denmark is up for awards in Best Documentary Feature and Best Animated Feature in addition to the International Feature Film category. The Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner tells the story of Amin Nawabi as he reveals for the first time his extraordinary journey from Afghanistan as a child.
“The Hand of God”
2014 winner with his movie “The Great Beauty”, Italy’s Paolo Sorrentino will be competing for the International Feature Film Oscar this year with “The Hand of God” which is set in the tumultuous 1980s Naples when a young Fabietto Schisa’s future is set in motion.
“Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom”
Bhutan's first Oscar entry in 23 years, “Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom” by director Pawo Choyning Dorji tells the story of a disillusioned schoolteacher who gets sent to the most remote school in the world high in the Himalayan Mountains.
“The Worst Person in the World”
Norway’s submission for the 94th Academy Awards, “The Worst Person in the World” is award-winning director Joachim Trier’s first Oscar nomination. The story follows four years in the life of Julie in her quest for love and meaning of life in contemporary Oslo.
