Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the 93rd Academy Awards in April 2021 took place at a number of venues.


2022 Oscars in "stories"
Nomadland was the chief winner at the 93rd Academy Awards in April 2021, claiming three Oscars, including Best Picture.
McDormand, Zhao win individual Oscars for Nomadland
The film, which stars Frances McDormand as a widow who travels around the US as a modern-day nomad, earned McDormand the statuette for Best Actress, and saw Chloé Zhao scoop Best Director.
This was McDormand’s third Best Actress win at the Oscars. The 64-year-old was previously honoured by the Academy for her roles in Fargo in 1997 and Three Billboard Outside Ebbing, Missouri in 2018.

Twenty-nine years on, Hopkins wins Best Actor again
Also among the notable winners at the 2021 Academy Awards, which were held as a multi-venue event due to the covid-19 pandemic, was Sir Anthony Hopkins, who received the second Best Actor Oscar of his career, nearly three decades after his first.
Hopkins, who had claimed the gong for The Silence of the Lambs in 1992, was recognised for his performance as Anthony in Florian Zeller’s The Father, about a man in his 80s dealing with dementia.
Best Supporting Actress went to Youn Yuh-jung for her role in Minari, with Judas and the Black Messiah’s Daniel Kaluuya picking up Best Supporting Actor. Yuh-jung became the first Korean actor to win an Oscar.

94th Academy Awards: The Power of the Dog leads nominees
At the 2022 Oscars, which take place on Sunday, The Power of the Dog and Dune lead the award contenders with 12 and 10 nominations, respectively. Also among the stand-out candidates are Belfast and West Side Story, which are each up for seven Oscars.

Oscars return to regular venue
Hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes, the Academy Awards are this year back to being held solely at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be aired from 8pm ET/5pm PT, with viewers in the US able to watch live on ABC.
