Estados UnidosUpdate:
No other Mexican striker has more goals than Chicharito Hernández

Javier Chicharito Hernández is in top form so far this season because he has scored four goals in the first five games. The Mexican international scored a brace on Sunday in the Los Angeles Galaxy 1-3 win against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park and they now sit in third place in the Western Conference.

Mexico lacked goals in qualifiers

His numbers speak for themselves, but they are not enough to earn him a call up to the Mexican national team. Chicharito has scored 21 goals in his last 26 appearances with the LA Galaxy and no other Mexican striker in any league around the world has a better average. The President of the Mexican Federation, Yon de Luisa, said last week that Chicharito will not receive a call up as long as Gerardo Martino is the manager.

Chicharito has been vocal about wanting to return to the Mexico national team, but since he was involved in a scandal in 2019, Martino stopped calling him. Now it seems that Hernández has already apologized to the Argentine coach and he could receive a call up if he apologizes to Yon de Luisa. The LA Galaxy captain got in an argument with Yon de Luisa because he didn’t agree on how the prizes were distributed at the end of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

So if Chicharito is able to sit down and talk with Yon de Luisa, then he might receive another call up for the first time since 2019. Also the Mexican national team struggled to score goals during the qualifiers and Hernández has been scoring one goal every 104 minutes.

Chicharito voted MLS Player of the Week

One thing is certain, Javier Chicharito Hernández is in goal-scoring form and after his performances over the weekend he was voted the MLS Player of the Week for week 5 of the season. This is the fourth time that Hernández wins this award and the Mexican international will be highly motivated to face LAFC on Saturday at the Dignity Health Sports Park in another edition of El Tráfico.
