Champions League Preview: Benfica vs Liverpool

Liverpool will travel to Lisbon’s Estadio da Luz to take on Benfica on Tuesday night for their first leg of the Champions League quarter-final game.


Benfica will host Liverpool for their first leg of the Champions League final on Tuesday, April 5 at 3 p.m. ET.

Benfica is coming into the game agter a loss to Braga in the Primeira Liga, but Liverpool is coming into it off a win over Watford in the English Premier League. The Reds were able to get the win in the away leg in the last-16 even after playing less than grand at Inter Milan.

Here's what you need to know ahead of the game.

Liverpool have lost each of their last three games against Benfica in European competitions. However, the Reds are undefeated in their last eight Champions League games against Portuguese opponents with six wins and two ties.

Benfica's average possession of 40 percent in the UCL this season is the fourth-lowest of any team.

Darwin Nuñez is one goal away from equaling Nuno Gomez' record for most goals for Benfica in a UCL campaign.

Mohamed Salah has scored eight Champions League goals this season, with six coming away from home.
