King Charles’ search for big-name performers for the Coronation concert at Windsor Castle continue with word that Adele and Ed Sheeran will reportedly not take part despite the invitation, on account of them being too busy to come.

The concert is scheduled to take place May 7, the day following King Charles III’s coronation where he will be crowned at Westminster Abbey, and screened by the BBC. Several thousand tickets are expected to be made available to the public by ballot.

Coronation concert snub

According to the Daily Mail, King Charles was very keen for Adele and Sheeran to play, as he emphasized his hopes for the two entertainers to perform when he met with event organizers.

“The king has suggested a number of people he would like to perform and Adele and Ed were on that list,” a source involved with the event planning said. “He was very keen that they were part of the concert.”

The 74-year-old assigned a whole team to acquire the top talent to play the celebration concert, but despite the king’s efforts, Adele and Sheeran, both British singers, said that they were unavailable to perform.

“They approached the two of them, but got replies saying that they were unavailable, which was a massive disappointment,” the source continued. “They are titans of the showbiz industry and are quintessentially British but also known across the globe.”

“It’s such a shame.’

Other options for King Charles

Though Ed Sheeran, who played at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant in June 2022, has a show scheduled in Texas May 6, he has previously done back-to-back shows by transporting in his private jet.

As for Adele, her last public calendar commitment before the Coronation concert is March 25 in Las Vegas.

It is also reported that the king wishes to see Harry Styles, Lionel Richie, and the Spice Girls sing at his special event. None of them have confirmed they will perform at King Charles III’s Coronation.
