After a 25-year career, this daughter of a legendary actress is nominated for an Oscar for her role in ‘Song Sung Blue’

Ironically, a film titled Almost Famous (2000) was the movie that ultimately launched a very young Kate Hudson into the spotlight when she was just 21 years old. At the 2026 ceremony, the 98th Academy Awards, Hudson will finally enjoy her first nomination for Best Actress for Song Sung Blue, after previously being nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Almost Famous.

She recently told People Magazine that she wouldn’t give her younger self any advice. “I don’t look back. I look at my life as a series of amazing, privileged, wonderful moments that,” she said. “Of course, have had a lot of personal things that are challenges along the way. But I never look back and wish it was any other way than it was.”

“All of the mistakes or all of the uncertainty or moments of insecurity are exactly what they should be,” she added.

Kate Hudson comes from a particularly interesting acting family. She is the daughter of veteran actress Goldie Hawn (The First Wives Club) and musician Bill Hudson, and the sister of actor Oliver Hudson (Dawson’s Creek). After her parents separated, her mother began a relationship with Kurt Russell (The Thing), with whom she had another son, Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts), Hudson’s half-brother on her mother’s side.

Following Almost Famous, Hudson became especially well known for romantic comedies, starring in films such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Bride Wars, and Fool’s Gold, among many others. After later diversifying her career, she began receiving greater recognition, which has now been solidified with her recent nomination for Best Actress. The winner will be decided on March 16.

What is Song Sung Blue about?

“Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians (Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson) form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams,” reads the official synopsis.

In addition to Hudson and Jackman, the cast includes Ella Anderson (The Glass Castle), Michael Imperioli (Goodfellas), Fisher Stevens (Lost), and singer King Princess.
