Alec Baldwin reportedly calls gala server a ‘peasant’

A server was allegedly berated by Alec Baldwin at the 2023 PEN America Spring Literacy Gala last week. According to the woman who does not wish to be named, the actor called her a “peasant” as she walked away.

The unnamed woman disclosed to Page Sx that the alleged incident began when the ‘30 Rock’ actor was blocking the servers’ path as dinner was about to be served. Baldwin attended the gala with his wife Hilaria Baldwin.

“I’m a sweep leader,” the server explains, “which means I basically tell the waiters when to put down the plates and we have to do it in a certain order.”

“I was going to feed the head of the table but that’s who he was talking to, so I go up to him and I say, ‘I’m sorry sir, but we’re going to have servers walking through the tables here in a minute.’”

Servers have a job to do

She adds that she understood Baldwin wanted to chat up his pal but “me and my servers have a job to do.”

She explains that her comment set the actor off and claims Baldwin patronizingly asked, “So when is it a good time to talk to my friends?”

The server shares that she “did not expect that kind of reaction” and claims that he was clearly “very agitated” and even added, “Do I have to explain it to you?”

Not wanting to exacerbate the situation, she says she replied that he didn’t need to explain it.

“Well then step aside,” ‘The Departed’ star allegedly said.

“Afterwards, many of my co-workers came up to me and said, ‘Do you know what he said while you were walking away?’ I didn’t catch it because I was focused on my work but apparently he was calling me a peasant,” she claims, and was “clearly mad that I told him kindly, ‘Excuse me.’”

She notes that the rude manners didn’t extend to other guests at last week’s gala.

“I said, ‘Excuse me,’ to Colin Jost and he was nothing but sweet about it,” she shares. ‘He said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry’ and stepped aside.

Just doing her job

“So I know it’s not a celebrity thing. Maybe it’s people’s upbringings? Who knows what makes bitter people bitter.”

The server says she wasn’t nervous about possibly getting in trouble for the incident.

“What could he say?” she said. “I approached him nicely, I was basically doing my job.”

Last week, a separate source for Page Six alleged that the actor “was scolding” the server, adding that it was a “quick” interaction that went unnoticed by many.
